Established in 1972, ICNS is a fully licensed parent participation, or cooperative nursery school, which is a non-profit and tax-exempt organization. As a parent participation preschool, each family shares in the planning and operation of the school. Parents participate in the daily program on a rotating basis, serving as assistants to the nursery school teacher. The efforts of parents and their direct involvement with the children during the school day make co-ops a unique and rewarding educational endeavor.
OUR GOALS:
- To be a school dedicated to the enrichment and development of its member families as well as service to the community at large.
- To provide a developmentally appropriate program within a nurturing environment, enabling children to develop their social, emotional, physical, and academic skills resulting in a positive attitude toward learning.
- To teach and inspire families through parent involvement and mutual support.
ICNS offers five programs:
- Parent and Me - Age 2. A mid-day program two days a month for 1 1/2 hours.
- 2-day morning class - Ages 3-4. Tue/Thur Child/teacher ratio 1 to 5
- 3-day morning class - Ages 4-5. Mon/Wed/Fri Child/teacher ratio 1 to 5
- Pre-K* 3-day class - Ages 5-6. Mon/Wed/Thur
- The Kangaroo Club** - two days a week for two hours
*The Pre-K class is the perfect transition from a preschool curriculum to kindergarten. With a class size of only 15, there is ample time to focus on academics within each child’s abilities.
**The Kangaroo Club which meets two days a week for two hours after the morning programs can be reserved on an as-needed basis. The kids especially like this class because they bring their lunch and eat with the teachersand their friends. They make crafts and, of course, have play time.
In addition to our regular September through June classes, ICNS offers summer school in July that has been very successful. All of our programs continue to fill to capacity with many applicants on a waiting list.
